Essilor, formerly known as Essilor International Compagnie Generale D Optique SA, is a leading ophthalmic company, based in France. The Company designs, manufactures, and markets a range of lenses, frames, and sunglasses to improve and protect eyesight. It also develops and markets equipment for prescription laboratories and instruments and services for eyecare professionals. It operates through three segments: Lenses and Optical Instruments, which includes corrective lenses, optical instruments intended for opticians and optometrists; Equipment, which includes machines and consumables used by plants and prescription laboratories, and Sunglasses & Readers, which encompasses non-prescription reading glasses and non-prescription sunglasses.

The Company operates under a number of brands, including Varilux, Crizal, Kodak, Eyezen, and Bolon among others.

Essilor is looking to hire a skilled European Patent Attorney who has a desire to be part of a growing patent function within a global multinational that is constantly evolving.


Promising excellent long-term career prospects within a leading multinational corporation, the successful candidate is likely to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Full qualification as a European Patent Attorney (part-qualified will also be considered subject to the required number of years’ experience);
  • Significant post-qualification experience (at least five years);
  • A technical Masters Degree;
  • A technical background in IT, software, or similar new technologies;
  • IT Experience across several activities, including patent portfolio management, FTO matters, and oppositions/litigation and agreements;
  • Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory (French language is not essential).
