Client: Freeline Therapeutics
REF: 21060

Founded in 2015, Freeline Therapeutics is a leading biotechnology company focused on innovative liver directed gene therapies for bleeding disorders and other debilitating, chronic diseases.

The company’s technology builds upon the work of founder and Director, Amit Nathwani, Professor of Haematology at UCL. Its ambitious vision is to create better lives for people suffering from chronic, debilitating disease by developing functional cures for a wide range of liver-based diseases which have previously been underserved and incurable.

In August 2020, Freeline Therapeutics Holdings PLC has announced the pricing of its initial public offering (IPO) to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.

Freeline is at the cutting edge of research and development within these fields of study and for a company of its size they invest uncharacteristically heavily into IP.

Innovation shapes Freeline’s strategies and is firmly embedded within its culture and strategy. As a consequence, IP enjoys a high profile and is acknowledged as being of paramount importance to the company’s continued commercial success. The IP function adds value at every stage, from discovery to realisation, forging in the process effective working relationships with the relevant commercial and research personnel.

The objective of the Senior Patent Counsel position is to develop IP strategies for Freeline’s technical discoveries that will secure the company’s position as leader, maximising returns on R&D investment. This will entail working closely with the R&D team at the Munich site, including the Chief Technology Officer, and will include senior scientific and commercial management in developing IP strategy and in turn harvesting inventions to successfully capture market opportunities.
