THE OPPORTUNITY
As the market continues to evolve, and competition from both established competitors and disruptive new players remains fierce, this transition will continue for the foreseeable future. To secure its future in this increasingly competitive landscape, Nokia must remain attuned to these changes, identifying and pursuing new commercial opportunities as they arise. Nokia is therefore seeking to recruit an experienced Head of Patents to manage the Multimedia team and with the following responsibilities:
- Coordinating the use of resources and managing investments;
- Driving the technology strategy and vision, including technology road mapping, and research management.
- Patent administration, including patent boards & awards, filing & prosecution, and the coordination of external associates;
- Coordinating and ensuring technical support for licensing, litigation, defensive, divestment projects and reviewing acquisition opportunities;
- Providing portfolio analytics, including the management of internal & external studies, and portfolio visualisation;
THE CANDIDATE
The incoming Head of Patents will lead a global team of top IPR professionals, so the right candidate will necessarily be an experienced leader with excellent networking and communication skills. The incoming individual is expected to actively participate in discussions and drive the relevant agenda inside and outside of Nokia and will have the following main accountabilities:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics / Mathematics;
- Deep technical knowledge of multimedia technologies, systems and standards;
- Experience in leading a multicultural and international team, also remotely;
- Strong previous experience in managing patent portfolios and / or carrying out technical analysis of patents (10+ years);
- Proven ability to achieve results by leading teams and drive for results;
- Innovative and inspiring, able to successfully initiate new ways of doing things;
- Effective communicator, influences decision making of colleagues and partners;
- Strong business judgment, analytical acumen, and communication skills are essential;
- Collaborative, a natural people leader & team player;
- Excellent communication skills and command of written and spoken English.
