THE OPPORTUNITY

IP Manager – Life Sciences & Environment

The Life Sciences & Environment (LS&E) segment is divided into the Air Filtration and Water Solutions business units as well as future solutions outside the automotive sector. The air filtration portfolio includes filters for indoor and outdoor spaces, cleanrooms, energy generation and industrial applications as well as solutions for clean outdoor air in public areas (Public Air Solutions).

Intellectual Property has a high profile within M+H and it is acknowledged as being of paramount importance to the organisation’s continued commercial success. As such, M+H is constantly working on new technology and innovative products to maintain its leading position in its business areas. The company to date has filed more than 4,500 patents or patent applications worldwide.

Reporting into the Head of IP, the IP Manager LS&E will have the following main accountabilities:

  • Global responsibility for handling IP rights, freedom to operate evaluations, and IP enforcement in the area of Life Science & Environment;
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders and consult in all IP legal and related subject matters;
  • Be strategic and forward-thinking when it comes to identifying innovation and developing IP protection strategies and secure freedom to enter new field of businesses. Actively encourage the development teams to improve MANN & HUMMEL’S IP portfolio;
  • Provide IP support for contracts and negotiation in cooperation with MANN & HUMMEL’S s legal department;
  • Perform IP trainings.

 

THE CANDIDATE

A successful candidate should possess:

  • Qualified European Patent Attorney and national Patent Attorney in a major European jurisdiction with at least 3 years PQE;
  • A university degree in physics, engineering, biophysics, chemical engineering, food technologies, materials science or another related area of study;
  • Strong experience in area of Life Sciences and environment, drafting and negotiating of contracts, M&A projects, and litigation;
  • Experience in licensing, joint development agreements, relationship with universities and start-up companies is an advantage;
  • View IP with a strategic and “IP as a business asset” mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks, and seeking creative solutions and opportunities;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Excellent skills in English, fluent in German; any other language skills are an advantage;
  • Willingness to travel.
