THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Patent Attorney, you will provide expert advice and assistance in all matters relating to patents and other intellectual property rights. You will primarily focus on hardware & associated software developments in Europe, US and China. You will identify and protect Elekta’s innovation, develop the IPR strategy, maximising differentiation opportunities and minimising the level of 3rd party IPR risk to the business.

The key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide all aspects of legal support, general commercial and regulatory advice relevant to Elekta’s patent portfolio.
  • Manage IPR and patent awareness within Elekta
  • Assist in the development and implementation of IP strategies and raising awareness of IP
  • Review of the existing portfolio and the IPR portfolio of third parties to maximise Elekta’s IP patent protection and minimise infringement risks
  • Ensure appropriate IPR risk management of Elekta developed products or services
  • Provide project based IPR support to new product research and development
  • Monitor, evaluate and translate the interpretation of new IP legislation to support business strategy and objectives
  • Builds, develops, and maintains relationships with key internal contacts within all Elekta group companies and business functions where IPR/patent issues may arise through innovation or infringement risks
  • Provide IPR support to Elekta legal teams globally
  • Management of workload of international network of external patent support
  • Support of external research and technology transfer programs to manage IPR creation and capture.
  • Support in IPR legal enforcement and litigation
  • Support of IP licensing and license management
  • Develop, implement, and manage internal IP support processes

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidates are likely to fulfil the following profile:

  • Near or up to 3 years qualified British and/or European Patent Attorney.
  • Expert in IPR legal and formalities requirements in key countries (US, EP, CN)
  • Scientific or engineering degree
  • Expert in IPR database management
  • Electrical/Mechanical/Software technical patent competency
  • Expert in patent and design filing and prosecution
  • Expert knowledge of patent, design, and copyright law mainly in UK and Europe, but also have an awareness of worldwide legislation and relevant impact.
  • Competency in Opposition and other adversarial proceedings against third party patents and/or defending Elekta.
  • Highly experienced in patent formalities globally
  • Computer skills – good IPR database skills, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook skills
  • Process management and development for IPR governance
  • Proficient in English
