The Opportunity

ResMed’s team is committed to creating the world’s best tech-driven medical device company – improving quality of life, reducing the impact of chronic disease, and saving healthcare costs in more than 140 countries. This is a unique opportunity to become part of ResMed’s journey and to join the global IP team based either in Sydney, Singapore or San Diego with substantial impact on the company’s IP strategy and growing patent portfolio. Key accountabilities will include:

  • Capturing and/or compiling new ideas from various sources within the company to drive new patent filings;
  • Developing IP strategies in collaboration with the technical departments based on the competitive landscape;
  • Drafting patent applications in their entirety; filing patent applications, office actions, forms and any other necessary documents;
  • Creating reports, charts, summaries, or other useful tools for facilitating communication and collaboration with various business partners within the company;
  • Conducting freedom-to-operate assessments;
  • Analysing competitive patent portfolio analysis;
  • Assisting with IP due diligence in support of acquisitions and partnerships.

The Candidate

They are now looking for a like-minded patent attorney with solid communication skills, with the ability to translate complex IP concepts into easy to understand language and with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively throughout the company.

Other qualifications include:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering strongly preferred; B.S. in other related fields will be considered depending on experience;
  • Qualification as Patent Attorney;
  • 5+ years of experience as a patent practitioner in a law firm or corporate setting;
  • Experience in drafting and prosecuting software related patents;
  • Understanding of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), cloud computing and services, internet-of things.
