Client: Nokia
REF: 20480

Nokia creates the technology to connect the world. The Fortune 500 Company serves communications service providers, governments, large enterprises and consumers with the industry’s most complete, end-to-end portfolio of products, services and licensing. They adhere to the highest ethical business standards as they create technology with social purpose, quality and integrity. Further, Nokia is enabling the infrastructure for 5G and the Internet of Things to transform the human experience. The company boasts a highly engaged IP and licensing culture, which exposes attorneys to all aspects of the patent life cycle.

The Opportunity

Nokia is now offering the exciting opportunity for a senior IP professional to contribute to the company’s vision of transforming the human experience. In particular, the candidate will form part of the Wireless Networks Standards (WNS) team, to be based in Aalborg, Denmark, where they will deal with high-profile technology, predominantly in the area of 5G systems, IoT and computer-implemented inventions.

The growing Aalborg site is of fundamental importance to Nokia within this space, consequently increased on-site IP support is critical to the organisation.

The appointee will be trusted to take responsibility for end-to-end patent work across Nokia with particular focus on strengthening 5G-centric portfolios and multi-service radio access network solutions.

The key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Identifying, capturing and managing IPR, with emphasis on invention evaluation;
  • Building IP value and awareness across the Aalborg site;
  • Handling any decisions on patent applications and patents including drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications;
  • Providing advice, including infringement and validity advice, on both Nokia and third-party patents, and managing opposition proceedings when required;
  • Preparing claim charts in support of litigation and licensing activities.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

  • Masters or PhD qualification in a relevant technical field such as electrical engineering, applied physics, computer science, or IT;
  • A fundamental understanding of 4G/5G wireless communication technologies, telecoms standards, software-based inventions and broader understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer-implemented inventions;
  • Full or partial qualification as a European Patent Attorney;
  • Strong post-qualification experience within a patent-heavy environment – private practice or industry;
  • Commercial awareness and interest in Nokia’s proprietary technologies and future aims;
  • Fluency in English, and ideally Danish preferred, with German, Finnish or French also considered advantageous.
