Adamson & Partners is celebrating 2021’s World Intellectual Property Day. Every 26th April, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrates the anniversary of the WIPO convention coming into force. The WIPO convention seeks to “promote the protection of intellectual property worldwide” and “ensure administrative cooperation among the intellectual property Unions” to allow creativity and innovation for everyone.

This year’s theme is ‘IP & SMEs: Taking Your Ideas to Market’ and focuses on the vital role of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the economy, supporting their growth, and harnessing and protecting their creativity. The WIPO states that Every business starts with an idea. Each of the millions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that operate across the globe every day started with an idea that took shape in someone’s mind and made its way to market.”

SMEs make up for 90% of all businesses and 70% of employment globally, so supporting smaller enterprises is crucial to economic regrowth in a post-COVID world. WIPO Director General Daren Tang explains in a recent video message, “SMEs are the engines, the unsung heroes of our economy. And yet for many of them, there is still a lack of knowledge about how IP can help them translate their ideas into products, and how IP can be a powerful tool for them to not just survive, but to also compete and grow.”

We would like to wish all of the businesses we work with a happy World Intellectual Property Day and hope your 2021 IP strategies continue in prosperity throughout the year.
