In March 2016, Adamson & Partners was retained by Volvo Group to assist with the recruitment of a Group Director IP Strategy & Portfolio. Headquartered in Gothenburg and employing approximately 100,000 people, the Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine and industrial engines.
The role, heading Volvo’s newly-created IP Portfolio & Strategy Group, is responsible for ensuring that the development and use of IP across all five business units is directly aligned with Group business priorities. Leading a team of 5 Global Heads who themselves have teams reporting to them, this challenging position required an experienced IP strategist with a proven track record of leadership in a multi-national engineering business.
IP strategy is an emerging field with a very limited senior candidate pool and Adamson & Partners’ long-standing IP expertise and worldwide market coverage were instrumental in Volvo Group’s decision to retain us for this important assignment. We carried out an exhaustive global search and within five weeks were able to deliver a shortlist of high-calibre candidates from the US, Sweden, Germany, France, Japan and the UK. At client interview stage, Adamson & Partners formed part of the interview panel and latterly assisted with offer negotiations with the chosen candidate, concluding the assignment in a timely and efficient manner.
