The Opportunity
This role invites a seasoned, experienced patent litigator specializing in SEPs to join InterDigital as part of the company’s growing capabilities. In this position, the successful candidate will join a dynamic and well-regarded legal department, and will be involved in litigation related to InterDigital’s patent licensing programs and other legal proceedings involving the company and its subsidiaries.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity and be expected to evaluate the internal and external litigation needs and resources of the company and to implement necessary changes and additions.
Key Responsibilities
Based in Europe/ the UK or working from a remote location, the appointed candidate will be responsible for:
- Worldwide Litigation Oversight and Strategy.
- The enforcement of SEPs, including providing advice regarding FRAND litigation strategies to drive the company’s licensing programs across various sectors, including cellular, video processing, video streaming, Wi-Fi, and consumer electronics.
- The defense of the company against existing and new global IP, antitrust, commercial or other litigation worldwide initiated by third parties.
- Managing and directing external counsel, providing support for litigation and other legal proceedings involving the company and its subsidiaries.
- Working closely with the company’s Director of Legal Operations and Finance Department to help the VP, Head of Litigation manage significant budgets for internal and external spend involving the company and its subsidiaries.
- Working closely with the company’s licensing professionals, supporting business and/or settlement negotiations with prospective licensees worldwide.
The candidate
The successful applicant should possess:
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a trial lawyer
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships within the department, with fellow managers and across the organization
- Strong, confident executive presence while being respectful of others
- Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus law degree; Law degree from top-tier law school preferred
- Currently qualification to practice law
- Experience serving as counsel in high-value patent enforcement litigation, including FRAND litigation
