With its novel and proprietary mebufotenin (5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, 5-MeO-DMT) products and current clinical development programs in treatment-resistant depression (TRD), bipolar disorder type II (BDII) and postpartum depression (PPD), GH Research is aiming to provide improved treatments for difficult-to-treat depression with increased remission rates, faster onset of action, durable effects, and improved tolerability and convenience using this potent psychedelic molecule.

The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to become part of GH Research’s IP team based in Dublin, Ireland, with substantial impact on the company’s IP strategy and growing patent portfolio.

The key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Overseeing and coordinating international patent prosecution efforts by Outside Counsel
  • Refining and managing the Company invention capture process with a view to obtaining patent and/or trade secret protection
  • Coordinating the drafting and filing of new patent applications
  • Overseeing and approving prosecution budget expenditure
  • Owning and managing the internal docketing and OC communication system and coordinating its use as a primary communication mechanism by OC
  • Ensuring compliance with all disclosure requirements before relevant Patent Offices (such as IDS requirements in the US)
  • Working with the legal team to perfect and maintain a clean Chain of Title for all IP portfolio assets
  • Working with the legal team to populate, maintain and regularly review the company’s Trade Secret Register

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the ongoing refinement of the company’s IP strategy
  • Supporting the management of any possible IP-related contentious proceedings
  • Providing guidance on IP-related statements in company press releases and SEC filings
  • Providing guidance on IP-related contractual issues
  • Assisting a cross functional team on IP landscaping and competitive intelligence projects

The Candidate

  • 6-10 years PQE filing and prosecuting life science patent applications
  • Prosecuting large complex international patent families
  • Working in an in-house IP role at a life science or medical device company
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical patent life cycle management strategies
  • Exposure to drug-device combination patent strategies
  • Knowledge of patent linkage considerations (e.g. US Orange Book listings)
  • Experience of contentious patent proceedings (litigation / opposition / nullity)
  • Invention capture
  • Familiarity with management of in-house docketing systems
  • Academic or professional experience with CNS disorders (especially mood disorders) and their treatment
  • A self-starter and comfortable working on their own initiative.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously under direction and prioritise workload.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude and present clear instruction/direction to team members.
  • Proven ability to successfully achieve results within a multi-cultural and geographically diverse cross-functional team.
  • Flexible, able to adjust, embrace and drive change.
  • An entrepreneurial, business-oriented mindset and a strong fit with the GH Research team and willing to “roll their sleeves up.
