Maria Hemberg brings over three decades of legal and strategic leadership experience to her role as Chair of the Board at Adamsons. Prior to joining the firm, Maria served as Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel for Volvo Car Group. As a member of the Swedish multinational’s executive management team, she developed the Group Legal & Corporate organization from a small legal and IP team of 20 professionals to a global organization with over 120 team members overseeing Legal, IP, Compliance & Ethics, and Corporate Governance.
During her tenure, Maria not only grew and developed the legal and IP organizations into highly professional global business partners and managed the separation from Ford, but she also built the Compliance & Ethics organization from scratch. Additionally, she played an instrumental role in Volvo Cars’ successful listing and in developing Volvo Cars’ corporate strategy, sustainability initiatives, and corporate development efforts.
In 2000, Maria joined Svenska Kullagerfabriken (AB SKF) as legal counsel, where she focused on M&A, joint ventures, and contract law. She supported SKF’s global operations, working in key markets such as China, the US, Korea, and Brazil. She also served as a member of the automotive division’s management team, further enhancing her expertise in global business and the automotive sector.
Though she has been recognised on numerous occasions throughout her career, notable accolades include being honoured with the DI General Counsel Award in 2020 and her inclusion in the GC Powerlist Sweden in 2018.
