In January 2016 Adamson & Partners were retained by Ashfords LLP to assist with the recruitment of a Head of Patents. Ashfords is a top 100 UK based law firm with seven offices and more than 70 partners.
The role
Ashfords were seeking an experienced patent attorney with a background in a hi-tech practice group to establish a patent prosecution function to complement their existing IP team and technology sector focus. The firm recognised the importance of offering a complete IP service to its clients and were keen to capitalise on its international and UK based work and the strength of existing client relationships. The role was responsible for the establishment and management of the firm’s patent prosecution practice, including both substantive work and business development.
Our approach
A thorough market search was conducted of the UK market, focusing on those attorneys who had a background in Physics, Electronics or a related discipline. Ideally those who held senior positions in private practices as Directors or Partners as well as senior In-house attorneys were targeted. Candidates were assessed on their ability to business develop, build relationships with existing and new clients and be able to quickly become part of a growing and successful IP team. A short-list of eight candidates were presented to the client.
